IIG Strengthens Industry Ties and Empowers Young Designers at the 14th National Jewellery Awards

The International Institute of Gemology (IIG) once again reaffirmed its dedication to design education and talent development by partnering with the 14th National Jewellery Awards (NJA). Organized by the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) in association with the World Gold Council, the NJA is a prestigious platform that honors creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation in the Indian jewellery industry.

This year’s NJA event, held at the IIG Andheri campus, brought together students, mentors, and industry leaders. It served not only as a celebration of artistry but also as a powerful reflection of IIG’s ongoing commitment to nurturing future jewellery professionals.

A Legacy of Support and Education

As the official educational partner for the seventh consecutive year, IIG continues to elevate its role within the industry. A standout initiative at this year’s NJA was the institute’s generous scholarship fund of Rs. 10 lakhs, awarded across the top 10 “Student of the Year” finalists. This scholarship isn’t merely financial assistance—it’s a strong statement of belief in young talent and a step toward providing access, recognition, and resources to deserving students.

Visionary Leadership Driving Change

Under the dynamic leadership of Mr. Rahul Desai, CEO & MD of IIG, the institute has transformed into a hub where heritage meets innovation. With campuses across India and a growing international student base, IIG is dedicated to offering an education that is both purpose-driven and globally relevant.

Speaking at the NJA, Mr. Desai—who also serves as a technical jury member—emphasized:

“At IIG, we don’t just teach design; we nurture design intellect. Jewellery is an intricate blend of art, precision, engineering, and emotion. Platforms like NJA are vital in validating the creative and technical excellence of our emerging designers.”

His long-term vision? To make IIG not just a bridge to opportunities like NJA, but a platform in itself, where talent, innovation, and global perspectives converge.

Global Impact and Student Success

IIG’s legacy is reflected in its alumni’s success stories. From Saloni Agarwal’s historic win in 2018 to Rabiya Malik, IIG’s first international student winning accolades in 2021, the institute continues to blend Indian excellence with global exposure.

A Platform for Growth and Mentorship

Adding to this spirit, Ms. Gunjan Sapra, COO of IIG and Head of the Jewellery Design Department, shared:

“The NJA is more than a competition—it’s a platform to celebrate originality and technical skill. At IIG, we mentor our students to not chase awards, but to pursue mastery and excellence. We take immense pride in guiding them every step of the way.”

A Community-Driven Celebration

The event saw an enthusiastic participation from students and faculty, with Shristi Dagar from GJC outlining the latest NJA entry criteria to a packed hall. The event concluded with heartfelt appreciation and a token of gratitude from the IIG team to all collaborators and guests.

A Modern Heritage Institute for a Global Future

Founded in 1965 and continually evolving, IIG remains a modern-heritage institute rooted in education and committed to creating real-world opportunities. As the jewellery industry transforms, IIG stands tall—preparing students not only for competitions and careers, but also for leadership on global platforms.

Whether in classrooms or on national stages like the NJA, IIG’s mission is clear:
To educate deeply, elevate consistently, and export excellence to the world.
